Abstract

Elite is the largest fireboat built for the Hong Kong Fire Service Department. It was built by Wang Tak Engineering and Shipbuilding Company Limited of Hong Kong. It has a displacement of 660 tonnes, a measured length of 42.5m, beam of 9.6m and a draft of 3.4m and can accommodate 15 crew and 100 survivors. Service speed is 15 knots via twin Caterpillar 3516B engines, each of which can produce 1,772kW. A Schottel bow thruster, which is driven by a 522kW Caterpillar 3406E engine, enhances the vessel's manoeuvreability and station-keeping during operations. With a fuel capacity of 70 tonnes the fireboat can be operated in coastal waters up to 50 nautical miles offshore. The vessel also features underwater rescue capabilities.
