Abstract

Alginates are readily degraded by alkaline solutions at 80–120° with the formation of new 6-carbon, dicarboxylic saccharinates, 3-deoxy-2- C-hydroxymethyl-pentarates. © 1960, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
