Abstract
Background: Skin changes may, initially, seem to be easy to identify elements of an underlying disease, however clinical practice refutes that idea. There are countless presentations of a skin lesion, and often can be linked to more than one diagnosis. Objective: To report a case of a patient with nonspecific changes in skin who was treated with auriculotherapy in a complementary manner. Female patient, age 31 years, not responsive to treatment with allopathic medical specialist in dermatology, with complaint with recurrent for 3 years. Methodology: Two sessions of auriculotherapy were performed with seven days interval, using Vacaria seeds. The following points by auriculotherapy were used auriculotherapy: shen men, sympathetic, kidney, lung, occipital, endocrine, adrenal, shoulder, left knee, based on clinical suspicion of herpes, although not conclusively, by the dermatologist. The patient continued the use of allopathic medication, as directed by the specialist, for four weeks, even without a satisfactory result. Results: In the first day after the session, the patient reported a decrease of pruritus and, the third day, lesions receded. After the second session of auricular acupuncture, an improvement of the overall condition was observed and, therefore, the selected acupoints were maintained. Conclusion: Auriculotherapy was effective in this case for reducing the skin lesions, also reducing the itching and facilitating the daily activities.
