Abstract
Cobalt-based nanoparticles are promising candidates towards countless biomedical applications due to their unique characteristics. Co3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized by applying the sol-gel technique and finally sintered at various temperatures (700, 800, 900 8C). The crystal size, morphology, purity, and optical properties were determined using a variety of advanced characterization techniques. To investigate photodynamic therapy feasibility by using Co3O4 nanoparticles in the liver cells, in-vitro cancerous liver cells (HepG2 cells) were exposed to light of wavelength 655 nm (red light) for 30 min at 50 mW cm–2 and in dark as well. After assessment of cell viability analysis, it is concluded that light-induced photodynamic therapy shows significant phototoxic effects based on temperature dependency.
