Abstract

Acromegaly is an acquired disorder related to excessive production of growth hormone (GH). The condition was described more than 120 years ago and later ascribed to pituitary over secretion and adenomas. Acromegaly is a rare condition with a tendency towards mandibular overgrowth, maxillary widening, tooth separation and jaw malocclusion which makes its diagnosis important even for dentists. If the condition is untreated, enhanced mortality due to cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and pulmonary dysfunction is associated with a 30% decrease in life span. Till now majority of cases of Acromegaly are diagnosed by general physicians/ endocrinologists. So, we thought it's worthwhile to report a case of Acromegaly diagnosed by oral physicians with review of the literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
