Abstract

The objective of this essay is to reflect on sports betting from the theoretical basis of Norbert Elias and Eric Dunning. Additionally, this essay analyzes the structure of sports betting websites and the studies produced on the subject. Based on the references presented, it is concluded that individuals who bet on sports are seeking more excitement beyond what the mere spectating of the activity provides. If betting was a condiment for the excitement of watching a fight, as Elias presented in the past, today, with the expansion of the sports betting market, individuals are undoubtedly seeking this condiment even more, that is, they are looking for increased excitement.
