Abstract

The present study aimed to identify the destination of the household waste produced in the countryside and also endorse the program of collection of such waste in the municipality of Pranchita - PR. The paper presents a theoretical background on issues pertaining to production and environmental impacts of waste and the legislation that regulates on the subject. The study in question had an exploratory-descriptive. For data collection, 100 questionnaires were applied, they developed based on theoretical assumptions about the subject of study. To assess and meet the waste collection program in rural areas existing in the municipality conducted a documentary analysis using as source the Master Plan of the municipality (2009). The results showed that the majority of household waste produced in the rural area of research, does not receive the correct destination, according to basic rules to prevent environmental pollution. It was also found that the majority of people surveyed do not receive guidance on how to appropriate treatment to be given to the waste produced and also no incentive for such actions. As for the waste collection program, this does not seem to be efficient, because it was evident that the program does not meet most of the communities in rural areas. According to the opinion of the program users did not have a good rating, because 55.8% of users indicated that the program is poor and fair.
