Abstract
Resilience, studied the set of personal skills that allow an individual to function healthy in adapting to an adverse context and/or a disruptive event in daily life. Nowadays, resilience has been a factor to consider when evaluating sports performance. This research aims to determine the profile of the resilient athlete in a group of federated young people from Guipúzcoa (300 men and 135 women, with an average age of 18.61 years). An "ad-hoc" questionnaire composed of 3 already validated questionnaires has been used: The Resilience Scale (Wagnild and Young, 1993), the Fun/Satisfaction Scale (Balaguer, Atienza, et al., 1997) and the Questionnaire Motivational Orientation to Ego and Task in Sport (Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire, whose acronym is TEOSQ) (Duda, 1989). This study has examined relationships between competitive level, gender, sporting character, Motivational Guidance and Fun. The results allow us to conclude that the most resilient athletes are the ones who have the most fun and are the most motivated to practice sports, especially those who are more task-oriented. In addition, the practice of individual sports seems to develop the resilient capacities of young people to a greater extend. The resulting effect size is.288, medium effect.
