Abstract

We are happy to introduce the »Building Long-Lived Adaptive Systems» theme issue of IEEE Software. This issue includes contributions from successful researchers and practitioners who work on constructing software that can continue to operate for years or even decades, adapting itself to changes in its ecosystem that may not have been envisaged by its designers. So, what are long-lived adaptive software systems, and what is their relevance?.
