Abstract
A new single-bit σδ modulator based on multi-bit quantisation and a successive approximation (SA) algorithm with improved output swing due to a reduced quantisation noise power is presented. Although this structure maintains the linearity of the single-bit digital-to-analogue converter (DAC), it also removes the requirement for a high slew rate operational amplifier. Hence, the modulator dissipates less power. © 2014 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.
