Abstract

More and more governments and organizations are becoming aware of the importance of the development of an economic-productive and sustainable model, so the training of professionals in environmental management aimed at solving problems acquires a strategic character. The objective of this research is to analyze the characteristics of the Master's Degree Final Project of the Master's Degree in Environmental Management and Administration academic program in virtual learning mode of the Arturo Prat University of Chile (UNAP) with emphasis on the environmental management tools applied to the solution of concrete problems. The methodology has a quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive and cross sectional approach. Thirty Master's Degree theses coming from the Master's Degree in Environmental Management and Administration academic program in virtual learning modality of the UNAP from the beginning of the program in 2016 until 2020 were analyzed. The main results reveal that the most commonly used tools for the elaboration of the theses in the Master's Degree in Environmental Management and Administration academic program are five: compliance with regulations on the part of the organizations (43.3%), life cycle analysis (23.3%) and quantification of the carbon footprint (20%) which covers about 90% of preference in these management tools. It is concluded that the Master's Degree theses in the Environmental Management and Administration program of the UNAP under the virtual learning modality offer proposed solutions to real problems identified in real organizations, which shows that under this learning environment it is possible to comply with quality education standards, and with the training of a professional not only aware of the social problems, but also with the necessary tools to act effectively to impact on the improvement of life quality.
