Abstract

Virtual reality technologies and virtual reality technology products have started to appear frequently in various areas of our lives. Interactive course materials with virtual reality and augmented reality have started to become more visible, especially in the new generation education processes. Teachers' opinions on the use of virtual reality technologies in education, which are likely to be even more intertwined with the education sector, are also a matter of curiosity. In this respect, the aim of this study is to reveal the opinions of physical education and sports education teacher candidates studying at the Faculty of Sport Sciences on the use of virtual reality in education. A scanning model has been used in the study. Appropriate sampling method has been used in sample selection. The study has been carried out with a total of 345 volunteer Sports Science faculty students, 52,8 % of whom are male (n=182) and 47,2 % of whom are female (n=163), studying at Bayburt University in the 2021-2022 academic year. In order to evaluate the opinions on the use of virtual reality in education, a 5-point Likert type questionnaire has been applied to the participants. The data obtained in the study have been analyzed by using arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentage, t-test and ANOVA test. According to the findings obtained by analyzing the data, there has been no statistically significant difference in the opinions of teacher candidates on the use of virtual reality in education according to the variables of gender and teaching type. Statistically significant differences have been determined according to the variables of class, department, time spent on the Internet, being a virtual reality (VR) technology experience, sources of initial information about virtual reality (VR) Technologies. (P<0.05). It has been determined that there has been a significant difference in favor of those who answered yes according to the variables of seeing the participants as a trainer benefiting from virtual reality technologies in the future. It has been determined that the physical education and sports teacher candidates' opinions on the use of virtual reality technologies in education have been measured in the applied questionnaire and in this study, it has been determined that the physical education and sports education teacher candidates have had a high average scale and had a positive opinion about the use of virtual reality technologies in education.
