Abstract

The present experiment was designed to compare the rates of forward and backward digit recall. The results show that recall was faster in forward order than in backward order. This finding is consistent with the hypothesis that information can be retrieved from short-term memory only in the same order in which it is stored. © 1971, The Psychonomic Society, Inc..
