Abstract

Seismotectoniclly, Hong Kong is located in the Southeast China Outer Seismic Zone. It is regarded as an area exposed to seismic risk of mild-intermediate level. This paper provides a new result of seismic hazard assessment/or Hong Kong. The probabilistic seismic hazard analysis has been performed for Hong Kong based on the new geological and seismological dataset collected from China and international sources. The computation result obtained in this study indicates that the peak ground acceleration in Hong Kong region is in the range of 86-105 gal, corresponding to 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years. This result can be used as a basic reference for Hong Kong 's natural disaster reduction planning.
