Abstract
PLASMATIC AND BILIAR IONIC CONCENTRATION OF THE FRESHWATER TELEOST FISII PROCHILODUS SCROFA STEINDACIINER (OSTEICIITIIVES, CIIARACIFORMES), lN RELATION OF MATURATION CVCLE. Body fl uid ionic content of fishes varies with ambient. Vari alions in the plasmatic ionic concentration have also been related with sex or maluration cycl e, once that reproduction modifi es metabolic processes. ln tishes, lhe gallbladder is an importanl oSl1loregulatOly organ. So, the present work has been focused on the relalion of plasmatic and bil iar eleclrolyles with sex and malura- lion cyc1e, of lhe teleost fish Prochilodus scrofa at the resling and mature stages of gonadal cyc1 e. The animais (28 males and 30 females) were collected at Cachoeira de Emas (Pirassllnunga, São Paulo) and they were fas ted for three days before the experiments. Deteminations ofNa -, K+, Mg ++, and Ca ++ were made by spectophoto- melly and cr by microlitlllalion. Comparisons of ionic content belween sex and malUralion cyc1e were assessed lIsing analysis ofvariance and Stlldent-Newman- Kellls lest. ln this work it was seen that in males and fema les at resti ng and mature stages, there are no di fference aI ionic plasmalic conle nl. K+ conlenlS were higher in lhe bi le ofmalure males lhan in resting ones. Mg ++ bi liar conlenls were higher in resling males than in resting and mature males. Na' , Ca H e cr contents have no di ffe rence. Na', K+, Ca +- and Mg ++ contents were higher in the bile than in lhe plasma. CI- content was higher in plasma lhan in bile.Variations related with prote ic synthesis, and another metabolic processes during cyc1e, may be lhe reason of vari ations in lhe biliar ionic conten!.
