Heterosexual Pride Day: Conservative Backlash To The Visibility Of LGBTQIA+ People

Abstract

This paper analyzed bills with the goal of creating Heterosexual Pride Day at the municipal, state and federal levels. The Content Analysis carried out in the justifications of the presented bills, identified that for the Brazilian parliamentarians who proposed them, the need to institutionalize the Heterosexual Pride Day is related to the defense of the traditional family, moral and religious values and the idea that heterosexuality is at risk. In addition, the crisis of masculinity is used as an analytical category to relate such bills in an international movement of opposition to the policies of promotion of rights for the LGBTQIA+.
