Abstract

The impact of the contact between Aborigines of northern Australia and 'Macassans' on Aboriginal languages and cultures is discussed. The pidgin 'Macassar language' created for interaction with the Austronesian-speaking visitors from the 18th to the early 20th century seems to be forgotten now.
