Abstract

The crystal structure of Pd3Si has been established from single crystal data. The space group is Pnma, and there are four formula units in the elementary cell which has the dimensions a = 5.735 A, b = 7.555 A, and c = 5.260 A. The twelve palladium atoms are situation in 8 (d) (x = 0.1810, y = 0.0508, z = 0.3217) and 4 (c) (x = 00053, z = 0.9036) positions, and the silicon atoms occupy a 4 (c) position (x = 0.897/sub6, z = 0.469sub6). Pd3Si, thus, crystallises in the cementite (D011) structure. The atomic arrangement in Pd3Si is compared with those in isomorphous phases.
