Abstract
Clay minerals formed by hydrothermal alteration of rocks in the geothermal field of Los Humeros, Puebla, Mexico, were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Well H29 was selected. Kaolinite, smectite, illite and chlorite were identified in the clay fraction from drill cuttings. Crystallinity index of illites was estimated and FeIV content in chlorites was calculated. The results show a gradual transformation of phyllosilicates as a function of rock composition and temperature. At depth, the proportion of smectite in the clay fraction is high. -English summary
