Abstract
The article unfolds the history of research and expeditions undertaken by the brothers Boris M. and Yuriy M. Sokolov. On the basis of archival materials (12 letters from Boris M. Sokolov's previously unknown family archive) reconstructed are their methodology of fieldwork, principles of collecting folklore and ethnographic materials, their goals, objectives, and achieved results, among other things. The article reveals the large-scale work that the two brilliant folklorists and organizers of ethnography and museum affairs did in the USSR, and explores their personalities.
