Abstract

Reaction of pyridine-2-thiol (pytH) with Pd3(CH3COO)6gives [Pd2(pyt)4] (1), but that with PdCl2(CH3CN)2gives [Pd(pytH)4]Cl2(2), the alkalization of which yields 1. Reaction of 1 with iodine yields neither a dinuclear PdIIPdIIInor PdIIIPdIIIcomplex but tetranuclear [Pd4I2(pyt)6] (3). The structures 1–3 have been investigated by X-ray crystallography. Two Pd atoms in 1 are bridged by four pyt ligands in such way that two cis-PdS2N2units centrosymmetrically face each other. The Pd⋯ distance is 2.677. © 1990, American Chemical Society.
