Abstract
The editorial presents the issues of Social Development Issues. This issue includes six articles on problems pertinent to social development scholars and practitioners: welfare systems, structural adjustment programs, discrimination against women, female immigrants, son preference, and the plight and status of refugees. Perhaps one of the most notable aspects of social development policies is concern for the vulnerable and downtrodden. Modern warfare, ecological and environmental disasters, and structures of economic and political dominance have produced a large number of persons who are displaced from their habitats, villages, towns, and cities.
