Inventaires naturalistes et rééducation de l'attention

Abstract

À partir d’une enquête de terrain portant sur les espaces verts de la ville de Grenoble, les auteurs montrent que l’introduction des inventaires naturalistes en milieu urbain constitue une technologie d’éducation de l’atten­tion qui participe à un changement de « régime de perception ». Traités jusqu’alors pour ressembler à des « natures mortes », ces espaces verts ont été progres­sivement appréhendés comme des écosystèmes où se niche une biodiversité à découvrir et à préserver. Ce passage repose sur un processus d’éducation de l’atten­tion des jardiniers qui les amène à voir un éventail croissant d’êtres et à voir autrement ce qu’ils avaient appris à regarder d’une certaine manière. Cette évolution repose aussi sur la constitution de nouveaux collectifs : l’établissement de liens avec des spécialistes extérieurs ; la désignation, au sein du service des espaces verts, de « référents » ; la fourniture d’un équipement textuel \(guides, planches et fiches d’identification\) et technique \(filets à papillons, boîtes, etc.\) ; sans oublier l’arrivée de nouvelles espèces animales et végétales.Using a field study on green space in the city of Greno­ble, the authors show that the introduction of naturalist inventories in the urban environment constitute a tech­nology of education that participates in a change in “the system of perception.” Previously treated as resembling “nature morte” \(“dead nature,” the French term for “still life” in art\), these green spaces were progressively seen as ecosystems where biodiversity was burrowed, wait­ing to be discovered and preserved. This shift is based on a process of educating the attention of gardeners, which revealed a growing range of beings and a way of seeing in a new manner what they had been used to seeing differently. This evolution was also based on the constitution of new collectives - the establishment of links with external specialists, the designation of “refer­ents” within the services maintaining the green spaces, the supply of equipment both textual \(guides, charts, and identification cards\) and technical \(butterfly nets, boxes, etc.\), along with the arrival of new species of animals and plants.
