Abstract

The impact of the Spanish Civil War has been widely studied with respect to the Argentine case. The contribution of this article is to study the public and cultural life of one of the most prestigious Spanish institutions in Argentina: the Spanish Cultural Institution of Buenos Aires (ICEBA). While the association was responsible for Spanish cultural diplomacy in the country, the ICEBA had official ties with successive Spanish governments, both democratic and dictatorial. This article focuses on its position relating Franco's triumph and the different inflections that the ICEBA used surrounding the idea of Hispanidad. The article analyzes the institution's archives, along with other official archives and press.
