Abstract

The success of root canal treatment depends on effective disinfection of the entire root canal system. Cleaning and shaping and antimicrobial usage cannot completely eliminate bacterial load in the canal leading to reinfection. Herbal alternatives came into existence due to the ineffectiveness and potential side effects of synthetic drugs. This review highlights the antimicrobial properties of commonly used herbal medicaments in endodontics.
