Abstract

Lactic acid chemistry has been used for over 200 years and was used in early coatings products. As time passed, petrochemical-based solvents increased in use and lactic acid was forgotten in coatings. In the latest developments, lactic acid is regaining awareness because it is versatile and renewable. In addition, because the VOC emissions are biodegradeable, the opportunities for this material are increasing.
