Abstract

Reviews the book, Body image, eating disorders, and obesity edited by J. Kevin Thompson (1996). This book is composed of a collection of papers, authored by an impressive group of contributors, is a valuable addition to the study and treatment of the full array of eating disorders. The purpose of this book is to emphasize the central importance of 'body image' in the effective assessment and management of eating disorders and obesity. The book is divided into three sections: I. Body Image Disturbance, II. Eating Disorders, and III. Obesity. Each section is organized to present assessment instruments, interview methodologies, and medical evaluation of physical status. According to the reviewer, the material in this book is very organized, comprehensive, and well presented. Researchers and clinicians alike should find the material relevant.
