Abstract

In this chapter we describe how Semantic Web technologies can be used to manage the clinical knowledge and has two main streams: representation of clinical archetypes: 1)Clinical archetypes can be represented as OWL ontologies. We will describe an approach that combines Semantic Web technologies and Model-driven Engineering (Douglas et al.,2006) to achieve the goal. This approach can be applied to any dual-model based EHR-standard. 2)Management of clinical archetypes:The management of clinical archetypes will be illustrated by describing an EHR-independent Semantic Web system for managing archetypes. This system allows for annotating archetypes with external resources, performing searches and classification tasks.
