Can awake ECMO combined with NPPV treat severe H7N9 avian influenza? A case report

Abstract

We first reported a case of a 64-year female with H7N9 avian influenza and ARDS treated with awake ECMO combined with NPPV, and discussed these indications. In our experience in cases of severe H7N9 avian influenza with consolidation NPPV should be avoided. Early invasive mechanical ventilation may improve the prognosis.
