Abstract

"The Yellow Wallpaper," written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and first published in 1892, is a tale of a white, middle-class woman imprisoned by her doctor-husband, driven mad by a patriarchy controlling her "for her own good." The relationship between Gilman's tale and white, American academic feminist criticism is explored.
