Abstract

The Blackbird population of London, from evidence obtained from ringing, was highly sedentary between the years 1960-67. This population exists at a greater density than rural birds and has a higher recruitment rate due to an increased productivity. Even though the winter survival is better, the annual adult mortality is higher due to a heavier mortality during the rest of the year. The increased productivity rate is largely due to a lower mortality in the nest combined, probably, with slightly more clutches incubated per pair on average. © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
