Abstract

The following report describes the diagnosis and the treatment of an aneurysm with thrombosis in the Arteria pudenda extema of a 7 years old Arabian gelding. In order to reduce the swelling and supported by the sonographic diagnosis of a thrombosis, the Arteria pudenda externa was partially resected under general anaesthesia. Following surgery a haematoma lead to a penis prolaps. The haematoma was split, a pressure bandage was applied and the penis was fixed under the body, whereby this complication could be treated successfully. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of an aneurysma with thrombosis. The surgical excision of a thrombosed aneurysm of the Arteria pudenda extema may be considered to prevent an arterial rupture with possible fatal outcome for the horse.
