FP764FRAILTY AMONG PATIENTS ON THE KIDNEY TRANSPLANT WAITING LIST AND ITS RELATION WITH DEPENDENCY AND DEPRESSION

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The kidney transplant candidate has been changing recently to older and with more comorbidities recipients. This forces us to a meticulous evaluation in order to avoid early mortality and complications. Frailty is defined as the lack of biological reserve to face a stressful event and it has been related with both early and long transplant outcomes. Our aim was to evaluate the frailty profile among our kidney transplant waiting list recipients and correlate it with depression and dependency. METHOD(S): Observational prospective study with all kidney transplant candidates included in our kidney transplant waiting list from jun-2016 to march-2018. We measured frailty by Fried score (0-5: weight loss, exhaustion, low physical activity, slowness, weakness) at the time of inclusion. Furthermore, we collected demographic, anthropometric (+bioimpedancy) and lab data and we used several scores for functional and nutritional patients' status. ts were included and 80 (32%) were frail (mild 24%; severe 8%). Frail patients were older, more women and with more comorbidities. The multivariate analysis showed that daily-activity dependence (Barthel<100) or instrumental activities dependence (Lawton-Brody<5), as well as (Yesavage+) were more common in frail patients while age was not significant related. CONCLUSION(S): One third of kidney transplant candidates show several degrees of frailty with a predominance of women. Frailty is associated with dependence and depression and not with age. It is crucial to detect these patients and develop intervention programs for them. (Table Presented).
