Abstract

Brazil´s midwestern region greatly contributes towards agricultural production and, consequently, towards large amounts of pesticides. The dynamics of pesticide sales in Brazil during eight years (between 2009 and 2017) are investigated, with particular emphasis on the states of Mato Grosso and Goiás. Current epidemiological and ecological study analyzes data on planted area with permanent and temporary crops and sales of pesticides in Brazil, and in the states of Mato Grosso and Goiás. It provides detailed spatialization of the area planted in Brazilian municipalities and the increasing use of pesticides during the years under analysis. Results showed that yearly increases occurred between 2009 and 2017 in Brazil, in Mato Grosso and Goiás. Based on data on the sale of pesticides, one may infer the progress of agribusiness. However, prevention strategies may minimize damages caused by pesticides in these Brazilian municipalities.
