Abstract

The original version of the article, unfortunately, contained an error. One phrase in the discussion section was duplicated: Leaf litter decomposition typically begins with the degradation of easily hydrolysable compounds such as sugars and hemicellulose, then progresses to more complex polymers like cellulose and eventually lignin. The original article has been corrected.
