Abstract

Learning disabilities are a common problem seen in pediatric practice and the functional impairments can range from mild to severe. Learning disabilities are generally associated with many other behavioral symptoms and can affect the individual into adulthood. Early recognition and intervention have significant impact in long-term positive outcomes for children and adolescents who have learning disabilities. These interventions include medical, behavioral and academic forms of treatment. This discussion provides a broad conceptual overview of learning disabilities.
