A survey study was deployed, with a sampled population of 130 respondents from Arusha Municipality obtained through purposive and random sampling methods. Environmental Responsible Behaviour Theory and Waste management Theory guided the study. Data were analysed using descriptive analysis for quantitative data and thematic analysis for qualitative data. The following results were obtained; lack of resources in the municipal has led to inefficient waste management, the level of awareness on sustainable waste management systems is not substantial due to lack of sources of information and knowledge as they are a key factor in influencing the perception on the value of plastic waste and also putting into practise sustainable waste management systems that are used. In order to effectively practice sustainable waste management policies and increase in resources need to be established along with an increase in formal and informal education on waste management to the society.
