Abstract

In the present paper, we reported the chromosome numbers and karyotypes of five Hieracium species (H.medianiforme (Litw.et Zahn) Juxip, H. karagoellense (Zahn) SellandWest, H. argillaceoides (Litw.et Zahn) Juxip, H. asterodermum (Woronow andZahn) Juxip, H. umbellatum L.) from Turkey. Among them, three are tetraploid with 36 somatic chromosomes and one triploid with 27 chromosomes, and the other one diploid with 18 chromosomes, respectively. The basic number x = 9 was confirmed for all of them and their karyotypes consist mainly of metacentric and submetacentric chromosomes. Chromosome morphologies of four species were firstly reported. © 2006 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
