Abstract

This article aims to understand the elements of Indonesian horror films from 1990-2010. Results of this study indicate that horror films in that period kept the values of dominant sexuality so that the sacredness in the story that was carried became ambiguous and lost the meaning of the story itself. The presence of adult film stars further exacerbates the situation by highlighting sexiness. Because of that, then it creates strong opposition, both from the community and specific community organizations, who think that horror films have violated existing boundaries and are not following the norms that apply in Indonesia. Although many are against it, many horror films have managed to get the interest and attention of millions of people to watch them.
