Abstract

The genus Friesea Dalla Torre 1895 is recorded for the first time from Thailand, with 14 species of which 11 are new to science and described here. New chaetotaxy characters are introduced (tibiotarsal chaetotaxy), and others (antennal chaetotaxy in particular) are discussed. A cladistic analysis groups the Thai species in a few well-defined lines. Most species show holarctic affinities. Two species (F. kanchanaburiensis n. sp. and F. lisu n. sp.) form a special group limited to Thailand. F. rubeni n. sp. and F. furculata n. sp. show intriguing convergences with austral-antarctic species and F. gracilispina n. sp. is clearly related to a group of North-American forms. © 1991 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
