Abstract

Enamel gives to suitable substrates the advantages of being smooth, scratch resistant, strenghtful, hygienic, easily cleanable, anti–bacterial, non–toxic, decorative, aesthetical, heat resistant, chemically durable, colourful surfaces. Thanks to these desired properties enamelled products are widely used in home utensils, food, mining and machinery industries, craftworks, solar collectors, thermal power plants’ turbine wings, chemical containers, sanitary wares, exterior surface coats, writing boards etc. In this review paper the journey of enamels and enamelled products from past to present time will be given. Their historical backgrounds and technological developments, production, processeses and applications will also be mentioned.
