Abstract
Stricter fire safety requirements and the increasing use of plastics in flame retardants in critical application areas are dictating product and market developments. The focus of the new flame retardant and compound development is on halogen-free systems, particularly for engineering plastics. However, flame retarded polymers based on bromine are being continually refined and redesigned so as to have less impact on the environment. The ecological demands on flame retardant systems will help to ensure that polymers with greater fire safety are available for a wide variety of applications.
