Abstract

The Ordovician-silurian Boundary Working Group has formally defined the basal boundary stratotype for the Silurian System in a section at Dob's Linn near Moffat in the Southern Uplands of Scotland, U.K. The position of the stratotype point coincides with the base of the Parakidograptus acuminatus graptolite Biozone. This article outlines the background procedures leading to this definition. -Author
