Abstract

SummaryNew pathology residents are experiencing an unprecedented situation compared to their predecessors. These young doctors, who are highly exposed to digital technology in their daily lives, are or will be the first to encounter it in their medical practice from the very beginning of their training, both in their university studies and in their residency. Digital pathology provides an interactive and collaborative training medium, facilitating learning and knowledge sharing. However, the use of artificial intelligence during residency seems to raise more questions about the balance between benefits and risks in terms of skills acquisition. Supervised use by senior staff, supported by theoretical teaching explaining the basics of how these tools work and their limitations, is necessary to enable future pathologists to master artificial intelligence tools without compromising the acquisition of morphological analysis and critical thinking skills.
