Abstract
Today, the idea of a world without inequality appears an impossibility. Inequality, we have been taught to believe, is a fact of life: a natural if unfortunate condition of a complex globalised world. The aim of this chapter is to empower us to challenge this myth. Through an examination of historical case studies, from Central Africa to Mesopotamia, it demonstrates how equality has been historically campaigned for. By introducing these case studies to learner communities, the chapter aims to instil a sense of hope in the realm of the classroom regarding the possibilities of a more equal and just society.
