Abstract
The article discusses Israeli attitudes towards the land of Israel/Palestine. Particular focus is given to Israeli views towards the Jewish claim to the land. Details on the role of names and naming in claiming rights to the land are presented. The author discusses the religious elements of Zionism and the Brit Shalom peace movement. Claims that Palestine was undeveloped or was terra nullius, meaning a land without a people, prior to Jewish settlement are also discussed. Other topics include imperialism and the reconstitution of Israeli culture.
