Abstract
Stunting is a form of failure to thrive is one of the problems in the nutritional status of children under five caused by poor nutrition and health during prenatal and postnatal. Stunting appears as a result of a state of malnutrition that has accumulated over a long period of time so that its physical manifestation will be more visible at the age of 24-59 months. One of the factors in the incidence of stunting is the lack of iodized salt intake. One of the efforts to prevent iodine deficiency is very important to consume iodized salt. Iodized salt is salt fortified with iodine which is needed for growth and intelligence. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between consumption of iodized salt and the incidence of stunting in children under five in Kanagarian Balingka, Agam Regency. The design of this research is quantitative analytic observational, with a cross sectional research design. The population in this study were mothers of children under five at Puskesmas IV Koto, Agam Regency. Samples were taken using the Total Sampling technique as many as 84 respondents. The results of bivariate data processing obtained p-value = 0.828 which indicates that there is no significant relationship between the consumption of iodized salt and the incidence of stunting in infants.
