Studies on parasitic infestation of blue whiting (Micromesistius sp. sp.) with respect to the fish utilisation for consumption

Abstract

The invasion extent and parasites' localisation in organs of European blue whiting Micromesistius poutassou (Risso) and southern blue whiting M. australis Norman were studied. A very strong infestation of European blue whiting muscles by Anisakis larvae was found while muscles of southern blue whiting were heavily parasitised by a protozoan, Kudoa sp. A consumability of parasitised fish is discussed.
