Abstract
After introducing some approaches to knowledge science as well as the School of Knowledge Science at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, this paper introduces a new book entitled Knowledge Science-Modeling the Knowledge Creation Process (Nakamori ed., 2011) to suggest what knowledge science should be. The authors of this book are experienced researchers in knowledge science with the background of systems science, and core members of the International Society for Knowledge and Systems Sciences. This paper also introduces a theory under development for knowledge synthesis or construction, which is a methodology to collect and synthesize a variety of knowledge to solve contemporary, complex real-life problems. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
