Distribuição das larvas de Mylossoma aureum e M. duriventre (Pisces: Serrasalmidae) nas margens do rio Solimões, AM

Abstract

A distribuição das larvas de Mylossoma aureum e M. duriventre (Pisces: Serrasalmidae) foi estudada em um trecho de aproximadamente 60 km do rio Solimões durante dois anos (19951996). Foi analisada a distribuição vertical e por hábitats. Os hábitats estudados foram praias (áreas de sedimentação), barrancos (áreas de erosão), canais de lagos e foz de canais (áreas de ligação). Apenas larvas próximas ao estádio de primeira alimentação exógena foram encontradas derivando no rio. A distribuição de larvas entre hábitats não foi homogênea. A menor abundância de larvas das duas espécies foi registrada nas praias, e as maiores abundâncias ocorreram nos barrancos e foz de canais. As abundâncias de larvas nos canais de lago foram iguais às da foz para M. aureum, mas inferiores às da foz para M. duriventre. Os resultados sugerem que o padrão de distribuição está ligado a processos hidrodinâmicos e de desovas. Em todos os hábitats marginais, M. aureum foi mais abundante na superfície e M. duriventre, no fundo. Esta estratificação vertical sugere um comportamento larval ativo.The larvae distribution of Mylossoma aureum and M. duriventre were analyzed on the Solimões river comprising 60 km long, during two years (19951996). Distributions between habitats and in the vertical strata were considered. The main habitats considered were cutting banks, filling banks, mouth lake channels and lake channels. The distribution was not homogeneous between habitats. The lowest densities were found in the filling banks and the highest in the cutting banks and mouth of lake channels. Lake channels present higher larval abundance than filling banks. This pattern seems to be related to hydrodynamics processes associated with the spawning and larval behavior of the two species. In the most habitats M. aureum was more abundant at the surface samples than the bottom samples, but M. duriventre showed the opposite vertical distribution. The vertical stratification seems to be due to swimming abilities of the larvae.
